One of the biggest night's of the harness racing season is this Saturday night at Batavia Downs with the $25,000 Michael J. Kane Memorial Pace set with seven star pacers ready to facing the starting gate.

The field includes two "monsters" including Chewy Gross who drew the one hole and has earned over $124,000 this year. He Wants It All is even better with 2006 earningsof more than $221,000. These are NOT cheap pacers, people, these are top-notch horses. Others entered include Edison Hanover, JR Mint, Georgia Pacific, local favorite Michael Scores and Life Sizzles.

Also, the Open Handicap at Batavia will be run Saturday night and will carry a purse of $12,500.

To add to the excitement on Saturday, driver Anthony Morgan will be coming to drive in most of the 12-race card. Morgan is the leading driver easily in North America and has won 802 wins in 3111 starts and his mounts have earned over $6.6 million this year.

So with the leading dash driver at Batavia, he'll be battling North America's top driver percentage-wise in local star Jim Morrill Jr.

It will be great to witness harness racing's top two drivers battle for bragging rights for the night. Great horses and great drivers should lead to a super night of harness racing, something Western New York hasn't seen in a while.

The 12-race card on Saturday night begins at 7:35 p.m. and there will be Michael J. Kane t-shirts given out.

If you've never been to a harness racing track, this would be the night as this will sure be a night to remember. With the expected nice weather in the forecast, many races should be fast and evenly contested, with a track record definitely in jeopardy.

Make a night of it...enjoy the buffet (make reservations in advance for the clubhouse), watch the races and maybe drop a few bucks in the slot machines afterwards. The place to be this Saturday night is Batavia Downs!!
