Opening night at HSBC Arena

Well to be honest, opening night at HSBC arena was far more exciting than I even imagined. The building felt as if it was alive with the passion, excitement and anxiety of the 18,000 plus fans that were there! The air was crawling with it as you walked through the building.
The Sabres started slow, and looked a little sloppy in the first period, and trailed the Montreal Canadiens for the majority of the game.
Ryan Miller made some amazing saves during the course of the evening, giving us a small glimpse of what may come from our main goaltender this season.
Danny Briere was slow to start but after chewing the refs out in the third period, fired home a bullet of a shot past Canadien goaltender Huet. He never saw it coming and I don't think many of the fans did either!!
Jason Pomminville scored his first goal of the year as did Jiri Novotny.
Max Afinigenov made some outstanding plays and brought the crowd to their feet screaming when he tied the game with only 14.9 seconds left on the clock!!
The Sabres are again the comeback kids, never giving up and finding a way to win. They seem to be picking up exaclty where they left off last year, and that isn't a bad thing at all.
All in all, the place had the feel of a playoff
game!! The fans really felt like an extra player on the ice, firing up
the team when it counted most.
The Buffalo Sabres still have a long season ahead of them, but if the home opener is an indication of the season they will put together, one can only think that a trip to the "Big Game" is only a 80 games and the playoffs!!
