Adding insult to injury

Shawn is obviously not an NBA fan, because he clearly fails to comprehend the importance of LeBron James. By calling Rochester basketball fans crybabies for whining about James' failure to play in a recent exhibition, Shawn is insulting every single basketball fan in Rochester, and he's showing an inability to grasp what LeBron means to basketball, the league and every single NBA fan in America. LeBron IS the future of the NBA, and local basketball fans should not be mocked for their earnest and quite understandable desire to watch the future of the sport in action. What if, say, the Penguins played an exhibition with the Sabres in Rochester and Sidney Crosby didn't play? What if, by some chance, the Cardinals played an exhibition against the Twins in Rochester and Albert Pujols didn't play? What if the Saints played an exhibition against the Bills and Reggie Bush didn't play? It's the exact same type of scenario. Fans want to see history in the making, plain and simple, and if they're deprived of that opportunity, they have every right to be at the very least extremely disappointed. Sure, a lot of the blame for the disappointment suffered by Rochester basketball fans falls squarely on the shoulders of the promoters and local media who trumpeted the James' arrival with the Cavs, even as it became more and more apparent that LeBron would not play. But the promoters were just doing their job, and their job is to attract as many people as possible and make as much money as possible. So most of the blame should go to the local media (what a surprise). But do NOT blame the fans for being disappointed. Shawn, if you had shelled out $150 to see LeBron (or Crosby or Pujols or Bush or whatever star you really want to see play), you'd be upset too, and you'd have every right to be. That's what being a fan is all about about, and you insult every single basketball fan in Rochester with your condescension and ignorance. Having said all that, I LOVED your post, Shawn. It got me riled up, which is a great thing. It's what bloggers should do. Keep up the good work.

If the Sabres are playing the Guins in a regular season game, I'll go to see Crosby. I'm happy with a shift if it's a preseason game.

If the Twins play the Cards in an exhibition, I'll go early for BP. Because that's the only time to see Pujols and Scott Rolen. And Joe Mauer and Torii Hunter for that matter. I'd expect a lot of So Taguchi, Terry Tiffee and maybe a six-inning start from Red Wing Pete Munro, called up for the event. Or perhaps you've never been to the Hall of Fame Game?

Stars don't play long in home exhibition games and not at all on the road. That's why God made "split squads" for spring training road trips. And stars certainly aren't going to play in an arena built for minor league play, without the spring cushioned court and training room amenities of an NBA arena.

Rochester fans did get jobbed, but it wasn't by LeBron. The promoter who claimed he'd be there is at fault. And frankly, the fans should have known better.

Rochester hoop heads are fine people and knowledgeable fans, but there are a lot of cities with those types of fans around the country. They don't all get to see LeBron play. Heck, they don't all get to see NBA players play. We got that. Thanks NBA.

Again.. I think Shawn was right in this.. Boo the promoter... demand money back.. take his butt to small claims court. You were told you were going to see something and you didn't get it.
False advertising at it's finest. But BOOing Lebron ain't the answer folks, he didn't place the ads, he didn't say he was gonna be there playing.
place the blame where it lies, not on the player.
You did make some good points Ryan... so I guess I will shut up now.
