Let's be absolutely clear

I simply have to refute the assertions of a certain columnist at the local daily: The Yankees keep choking because of George Steinbrenner. He is why the Yankees are failing to win World Series. He's the one who ultimately authorized the asinine signing, at outrageous expense, of at least two chump pitchers (Pavano and Wright); a 40-plus-year-old former ace who's only a shadow of his former self; and a self-absorbed megastar who crumbles under pressure and lives in a perpetual state of denial. Shall I go on? It is Steinbrenner's arrogant impatience — we HAVE to win a title, and we have to do it NOW — that has led the Yankees to a ridiculous, even embarassing $200-million-plus payroll that has failed to win any championships, and in so doing, made the team a punchline across the country. It is that impatience that has led the Yankees to trade away just about all of their young prospects for overrated chumps who have proved time and time again that they can't take the pressure. George Steinbrenner is an absolute ass, and he's killing the Yankees. End of discussion.
