My Favorite Teams

As you know, you have my list of the "Most Depised" teams. So, let's flip the page and see what teams are my favorites...and yours as well. Comment on my list and post yours as well.

1. The Buffalo Sabres...I've always been a fan. I remember sitting in front of the Aud back in the early 1970s, skipping school, to buy tickets. I am not a band-wagon fan. I was a Buffalo hockey fan in the "old" days of the AHL when the Buffalo Bisons were the team.

2. The Buffalo Bills...I had season tickets in the "Rockpile" when I was 9 years old and still am a die-hard fan. The past few years have been lean, but I still think they'll go 16-0 when the season starts.

3. Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos....I was a long-time Expos fan when I was a little tyke and had my dream-come-true when I worked for the Montreal Expos for three great seasons doing public relations. I still love the Expos and just changed my favoritism to the Nationals. Same franchise...just a new name.

4. Ole Miss...aka Mississippi....I always liked the name and thought I'd go to Ole Miss one day.

5. St. Bonaventure...how can you not like your alma mater.

6. University of Buffalo...They are trying to make a name for themselves in Division 1. Reggie Witherspoon has done great on the basketball side, hopefully Turner Gill can do the same for the football team.

7. San Diego Chargers...I always loved the "bolt" on their helmet.

8. Florida Marlins...A recent addition to my list. I love the underdog and the true grit and hustle showed by their team.

9. Los Angeles Kings...Gotta love a west coast hockey team. Once again, the uniform got me liking them in my younger years, when the Purple and Gold were the main colors with the big "Crown" was on the front.

10. Rochester Americans...The hometown boys always put on a good show. The players in the AHL are always hungry and give 100 percent in hopes of getting a call to the "Big Show".

Let me preface my list by admitting that I'm a sucker for the teams everyone else loves to hate.
      1. North Carolina Tar Heels: The alma mater in any sport where they field a team. I've taped women's soccer to watch them in action.
      2. New York Yankees
      3. Miami Hurricanes: From Jimmy Johnson to Gino Torretta to Willis and Dorsey and the terrible call against Ohio State. Whether on the field or in a fight, I'm behind the U. (Unless they play Carolina)
      4. The teams I cover: The Bills, Raptors, Blue Jays, Rochester Red Wings (and by promotion to the bigs, the Minnesota Twins)
      5. Any team coached by Bill Parcells, Pat Riley or Larry Brown: And that's a lot of teams
      6. The New England Patriots: C'mon. How can you hate Tom Brady? Seriously?
      7. The Phillies, Eagles and Philly fans: I'm a former season ticketholder in the 700 level..it's a special fraternity that you never live down. Kind of like "ex-con" I imagine
      8. The Legion of Doom: You can argue that Pro Wrestling is not a sport, but the Road Warriors transcended the genre. It's enough to get me to root for -gag- Ohio State, because Animal's son is leading the D.
      9. The 1980 and '86 Astros: The uniforms, Nolan Ryan, Mike Scott. They should have beaten the Mets and benefitted from Buckner. Jose Cruz deserves a ring.
      10. Whoever plays Dook

I've always liked the Yankees, but I'm not one of those obnoxious fans who make 90 percent of the country hate the Yankees. I root for the team, but if they lose, no big deal.

I'm a lifelong Dolphins fan, but only because I liked their helmets when I was, like, 7. That's how I chose my favorite NFL team.

In the NBA, I like individual players — Tim Duncan, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Garnett, Ben Wallace — than I do teams.

And the NHL? Quite frankly, I don't give a crap. I like hockey, and I like the Amerks, but the NHL doesn't fire my rockets.

Finally, as an Indiana University alum, I gotta like the Hoosiers, especially the soccer team (which has won seven NCAA titles) and the football team (which decidedly HASN'T won seven NCAA titles). I'm actually lukewarm about the basketball team, and I'm very suspicious of Kelvin Sampson, who's fresh off NCAA sanctions.

See Shawn..we both liked our teams based on uniforms, team logos when we were younger. Was Miami a franchise formed when you were young? (LOL)...I wonder if kids today pick their favorite teams like us or are they brain-washed by their fathers to adore such teams as the Yankees and Notre Dame?
