Ready to call the race

Every fan and pundit has an opinion over which one-loss team deserves a berth in the BCS title game. Notre Dame is out, because they lost to Michigan, who lost to top-ranked Ohio State. Unless the Irish beat USC, of course (which they will). Arkansas is out because they got tuned up by USC in the season opener.
Quite simply, there is no fair way to decide which team's loss is less damaging than another's. The common solution being offered is that we should include them all in a Holiday Madness tournament.
Here's another idea: The controversy over the BCS title game exists not becuase there are too many teams that deserve a shot at the national championship, but because there aren't enough.
This season, we don't need a playoff in college football--we need a coronation.
Ohio State is clearly the best team in football. They are the only major conference team to run the table, and they posted a win over the second ranked team in their season finale. We've heard all kinds of arguments over why a rematch with Michigan would be unfair to the Buckeyes. I'd take it one step farther. A title game is unfair to Ohio State.
Let's call it now. Ohio State is the national champion. They're head and shoulders better than any other team. They shouldn't need to prove it in a bowl game played two months after the true national title game: OSU-Michigan. Give them the trophy now, and let them play Boise State in a clear-the-benches exhibition of a Fiesta Bowl. It will be a celebration of the team's season--kind of a live version of the video Sports Illustrated will be hawking to new subscribers in mid-February. We'll still watch. The network can still sell it's cars and potency products and hype it's horrible mid-season replacement shows.
Ohio State has earned the title. Award it now, rather than risking a fluke Fiesta upset. The last college team this dominant was the 2002 Hurricanes, and look what happened to them. The Canes had to play a Fiesta Bowl opponent selected from the pretenders and ended up losing: To Ohio State.
