The Premier Basketball League announced Tuesday that a franchise in Dallas has been added to the newly-created organization.
The Dallas ownership group is led by renowned sports-marketing executive Erin Patton, whose resume includes creating Nike's Michael Jordan brand and the low-cost Starbury line of shoes offered by Stephon Marbury. Patton also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Southern Methodist University's Cox School of Business.
"We are excited to bring an affordable, accessible brand of professional basketball as an alternative entertainment option for families in the Metroplex," Patton said in a press release. "I'm pleased to partner with the PBL to put the game back where it started — in the hands of everyday fans."
The PBL, which hopes to become North America's preeminent minor-league basketball organization, was co-founded by former Rochester RazorSharks owner Orest Hrywnak and boasts former RazorSharks President Steve Rossi as its Vice President of League Operations. Rossi remains based in Rochester. The RazorSharks, along with the Maryland Nighthawks, are one of the PBL's founding teams.
The PBL is scheduled to begin its inaugural season in January with a minimum 24-game schedule and a championship weekend slated for April. The league will host a national players tryout combine in Washington on Aug. 11.
